The 18th Annual Tucson Solar Potluck was held on May 8, 1999, at
Catalina State Park.
|

Some of the homemade solar cookers were larger than their owners.
|

Solar cookers were used throughout the day to prepare small food items
to be given away as samples to curious onlookers.
|

Cupcakes were baked in this solar cooker and then given away as
samples.

Several of the solar cookers on display
were so large they had to be transported to the potluck on trailers. This
Sam Irwin Solar Chef, built in the 1970s, has been used at previous
potlucks to cook two 16 pound turkeys at the same time. The cooking time
on the turkeys was approximately 5 hours.

A large PV array was deployed at the
park to supply electricity to the stage...

throughout the day.

At 5 pm solar chefs began removing
their potluck dishes from ovens and placing them on the food tables. As
participants piled their plates high with food, another solar potluck came
to a successful end.
