Arizona Style - 2007 Tours of Solar and Sustainable Buildings. A
statewide element of the American Solar Energy Society National Solar
Tour. Solar powered, energy efficient, and sustainable homes and
buildings in the State of Arizona, in concert with tours across the
country, will be shown on public tours. It's all part of the American
Solar Energy Society's 12th annual National Solar Tour, the largest
demonstration of installed renewable energy technologies, energy
efficient building. and sustainability practices in the United States.
Tour offers local residents in various Arizona communities, an
opportunity to find out how their neighbors are trimming their energy
bills, increasing their energy independence and taking steps to address
global warming.
- Tour Description: Tour is
self guided. With 15 or more sites ranging from new construction
(residences, public buildings, etc.) to existing building retrofits to
alternative materials (straw bale residence, insulated concrete block
residence, building of block made out of waste paper, etc.) and ranging
from solar equipment (photovoltaics, solar hot water, solar cooking,
etc.) to passive solar design and construction for the desert. A downloadable, printable tour guide with descriptions and travel directions
available below.

- Times: The course will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Registration starts at 8:00. Those taking the course can get their tour tickets at the same time, and for a discount. The tour will follow the course, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For those not attending the course, tickets for the tour will be available at the same location, from 10:00 to
noon.

- Plus the Next Generation Home Course: Tucson’s officially recognized Next Generation Home Program presents the best unbiased, non-commercial information, advise & ideas from local experts for improving your home, remodeling, building or buying the solar, ecological and homeowner-friendly home you’ve always wanted – a comprehensive, factual, information-packed class to help you get what you want in a home and greatly reduce your costs of home ownership, with the emphasis on practicality and cost savings. The course will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Registration

- Tour Location: For Tour and Course, come to Pima Community College’s Campus Center Auditorium,
1255 N. Stone
Ave., just north of Speedway. Lots of free parking in front. Just go in the main entrance and follow the signs.
Please note: The MapQuest star is in the wrong location - it should be one block south of where it is, in the first block north of Speedway on the west side of Stone.
- Costs: The course is $10 individual or family. You can bring a friend for $5. The tour is also $10 individual or family - bring a friend for $5. You can take the both course and tour for $15. We can accept only cash, so please bring the exact amount in cash and things will go smoother for you - and for everyone else.
- Tour Guide: You won’t need the tour guide ahead of time. You can get all the information, view the selection of homes on the tour and plan your day just by visiting our web site at
www.solarinstitute.org the week before the tour. There is also special information for those coming from out of town. Please understand that the web site won’t have complete details until just before the tour. Any updates will also be available on our hotline recording at 520-792-6579, where you can also leave a message.
